OVERVIEW |
|
The Busan Asian Games is the first large-scale
all-Asian sporting event in the 21th century.
It will be staged in Busan under the theme
of 'New Vision, New Asia' The games will
run for 16days from September 29-October
14, 2002, at venues in Busan, Ulsan and
other adjacent cities in the southeastern
coast of the nation.
This is the second Asiad to be
organized by a metropolitan government other
than the capital city and will be the largest
in Asian Games history in terms of the number
of events and participants. An estimated
11,000 athletes, officials and journalists
from 42 member countries of the Olympic
Council of Asia(OCA) will converge on Busan
for competitions in 38 events.
In addition to the gala opening
and closing ceremonies, cultural events
will also be featured during the competition,
transporming the entire event into an international
sports and culture festival. |

GOAL |
To faster friendship exchange and unity among the Asian countries. To elevate
Busan as a leader of Asian prosperity in
the 21 century. To cultivate a feeling
of commonality among the people of Busan
and to elevate the city's ability to
accommodate international sporting events. |

BASIC OBJECTIVES |
To give a spur th the local economy
by developing sports complex, and boost
the city's resources, and indestries related
to sports events. To ensure profitable
operations though efficient management,
resulting in maximum result at a minimum
cost, while maximizing output. To achieve
confidence in game management and expand
local facilities. To encourage the participation
of voluntary workers. To provide a meeting
place for the various traditional cultures
of Asia. |
