 2006 DOHA
DOHA is the capital where most of the commercial, financial and government activities are concentrated. It lies half way along the East Coast of the peninsula.

DOHA is the host country for the 2006 Asian Games. DOHA is a coast city of 400000 population where it lies on the east side of the Qatar peninsula.

DOHA is familiar to the soccer fans. Because many matches were held there where we could see the Korea soccer team. Especially last 1995, the preliminary match for the Atlanta Olympics were held here where Korea had a verge of a crisis to be elimanated, but Iraq tying with Japan saved Korea, making Doha a 'Doha's blessing.'

DOHA is the most crowded port city of the Persian Gulf and it has a western modern city feature in the Middle East. Qatar became a capital

city with its independence. After WorldWarĄ± DOHA had a rapid growth with producing oil. And also pearl fishery, fishing industry and metalwork industry were thriving. At 2001, November, the fourth WTO meeting was held at DOHA, making DOHA what is called a city that adopted Doha Round.

DOHA is situated on the east coast of the Qatar peninsula and forms a wide semicircle around the southern shore of Doha Bay. Since 1939,

when oil was discovered in the Dukhan area nearby, the economy of DOHA has depended on the huge oil royalties received by the ruling sheikh. The city is the home and urban center of many of the workers in the ouil fields, and it is the residence and administrative center of the ruling family (al-Thami).
Prior to 1939 the inhabitants had lived by pearling, fishing, and trading, and by slaving and smuggling.

DOHA has undergone enormous changes since the opening of the Dukhan field. It has trebled in population and doubled in area and now contains three quarters of the total population of Qatar. The center of the city is dominated by the ruler's new palace. Nearby are closely packed houses in twisting alleys, contrasting with modern goverment offices, neat bungalows, a shopping center, and a mosque. To the south lie new government low-rent housing areas and to the east rise a hotel, clubs, and the new oil quay. The city is served by a modern airport.
